My darling, sweet niece, Claire Marie Hardie, is very, very ill and is currently in the Pediatric ICU. Please, friends, surround this beautiful little girl with prayer for complete healing and warm thoughts of love; her parents, my sister Susan and brother-in-law Cassian, with prayer for strength and peace; her physicians and nurses, prayer for wisdom. Claire was misdiagnosed [numerous times] over the past 13 days - treated for a suspected UTI when she presented with pain and fever. Definitive word came this morning from the U of M pediatric surgeon who was brought in to consult on the case and diagnosed peritonitis. He determined that Claires appendix has ruptured, but so many days ago that they cannot perform surgery; to do so would risk spreading the infection. All the attempts to call this a UTI were misdirected & the antibiotic for the UTI was ineffective. Last night was a major turning point. Claire became very pale, very cold, her pain increased dramatically and by the time the got to the ER she was vomiting and blacking out. Claire is now in the pediatric ICU. There are concerns for her blood pressure, oxygen levels, and the bacterial infection not being touched by antibiotics. She is a extremely sick and very weak little girl.
