My darling wife is one of the most capable people I know. If theres red tape to wade through, which would paralyze me, she just has at it and the task is accomplished in no time. However, lately Ive noticed how often she asks me the answer to simple questions. She either knows the answer or the answer is inconsequential - its just a habit. In the grocery store: Should I get the canned peas or corn? Should I get the 1/2-oz container of turmeric or the 3/4-oz container? Ive started responding like this: Which would you buy if I were dead? Its a fun little game we play. I think she really enjoys it. Yesterday at our Volunteer Appreciation Lunch at church, she was kind enough to grab us each a piece of cake. Should I bring you chocolate cake or white? Since weve been married 34 years and she knows Im not crazy about chocolate cake, I said, What would you bring me if I were dead? She said, If you were dead I wouldnt bring you cake!
