My daughter, Deborah, got hit by a car late Friday night. She is lucky to be alive. She doesnt remember anything except waking up in the hospital wondering where she was and asking what happened to her dog. I got a call from Baylor Emergency about 2:00 am Saturday. They couldnt tell me anything except that she was awake, in the trauma ward, and had been hit by a car. I went over and picked up Mathew (Robert) and we headed to Baylor. He said that brownie came home about 2 hours earlier, covered with burrs, and he thought Debbie would be right behind him, but she didnt show up. When we got to the hospital she was laying there in a neck brace and had bruises and scrapes all over her body, and stitches in the back of her head. We waited to see what the results of the CT scans and other test showed. At about 6 am the doctor came in and said that she was a very lucky girl, first of all, just to be alive! Then because the tests showed that she had no broken bones, no spinal injuries, and no internal injuries. Shortly after that she was released to go home. It wasnt until today, when we visited the scene of the accident, that we really knew what happened. Apparently, Deborah was walking down Burton on the shoulder (there are no sidewalks). She was carrying her dog, Brownie. A car traveling about 45 miles an hour and driving on the shoulder, hit her, knocking her into the air. She came down on her head and back, knocking her out, and skidded about 1-2 feet in the middle of the road. Brownie also flew out of her arms, into the air, and landed in the ditch on the other side of the road. Besides getting covered with burrs he also injured his right front leg, and can’t walk on it.
