My daughter Kris, visiting for a few days, is off to LA this Friday for her next production design project. Without really thinking I said, Ya know, I remember when, at the last minute, you could stroll into the airport, pay cash for a reasonably priced ticket, check a few bags for free, walk straight to the gate, get on a plane, light up a cigarette and get free or cheap cocktails. I also remember when suitcases didnt have wheels. At that moment I realized how old I am and, sadly, just how much things have changed. Flying used to be a pleasure and a fun experience. Now its a cattle call. Wheels on suitcases are an improvement though.
