My dear fellow gringo brothers and sisters. Uneasy is our lot. Heavy cross we bear. God knows, immigration to Brazil ain’t exactly a pleasant stroll in the park. But, if there is any advice I could impart, it most certainly would be – learn as much as it is humanly possible abt the country we are living in. Read books; study its history and culture; take interest in politics and law; visit local museums, events and shows. Travel – explore Brazil. Experiment with new. Try everything and reject nothing on principle. Put ignorance and arrogance aside. Make friends with people from all walks of life, of all colors and professions – bakers, lawyers, street cleaners, policemen, doctors, motoboys, favelados, waiters, teachers etc etc After all, being an expat in a foreign land is the best way to keep one’s mind open, vision undimmed and soul rejuvenated. Who can tell, if our current troubles, may not be our future salvation. And remember , ‘’there is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so’’. Peace :)
