My dear stepmother Dee passed away this morning. She made my father so happy and took such good care of him that I will always be grateful to her. She was gracious to my siblings and I, welcomed us always and loved us well. I remember when my husband left me, my father and she came to see me immediately. I was in shock and under some kind of delusion that everything was going to be fine, we would work together for the kids etc. She knew better. She sat in my kitchen and cried, because she knew the sorrow and heartache I would be facing. When my children came along she was so delighted with them. She loved to laugh, she loved all kinds of animals and was devoted to my father and her children. She cared deeply about our world and what happened in it. I was very fortunate to be her stepdaughter. At first I didnt appreciate it, stepparents often get the bad rap. But the love I saw between her and my father was inspiring. I was at her son Robs wedding, and I was talking to my father. Then this song came on. My father abruptly said, Im sorry, but I have to find Dee. He found her and danced with her to this song.
