My earlier post about a friends Christmas being ruined by a burglary was a mistake. His post was meant as a joke to indicate hed scared off Santa. I immediately jumped to the conclusion that hed chased off burglars after theyd ripped off the family presents under the tree (theres a story like that every year). Now that Ive stopped laughing to the point of tears (which hurts when one has just ingested three poinds of food), I offer my apologies to Tom Jelke, my friends who read that post, and most of all to Santa Claus...to whom Id unwittingly offered an uncomfortable proctological probe with a sharpened peppermint confection. Note my euphemism so as to take it over the heads of the kids who read this. What is wonderful, though, is the outpouring of support Tom and his family received, though due to my error. I note that an atheist, a Jew and a Muslim were amongst those that offered moral and financial support to Tom and his family. This whole thing was started by my rush to judgement and my misanthropic streak. It ended with me thinking far better of my species. Amo, friends. Amo.
