My earlier post reminded me of another story... :) Now I not saying we were extra tough kids...I just think that growing up on ranches is different than growing up in town...I know...I did both...I think our good friend Mark Bowman my have said it best My description of the Clark/Ryan childhood would be FULL CONTACT!...I think that pretty much sums it up in my book....anyway....all kids in our day (1960s) played army....most had toy guns and would go bang bang! youre dead....well after the 2nd or 3rd...No! you missed me!...we decided this dont make it!...n out came the bb guns!....we all knew it was wrong and against all the laws of the ranch...but...we just had to know....so it was me and cousin Robbie (the good guys) against brother Danny and cousin Matthew (the bad guys)...It was the Battle of the Slew!....big stuff in 1966....many shoots fired both ways...neither side weakened till Robbie and I brought out the big gun!...177 cal pellet rifle...hit cousin Matt right in the belly!...he went down in a heap...Rob and I looked at each other with terror!...we killed him!....Now for damn near 50 years I lived with the guilt that it was me that shoot little cousin Matthew...Until sometime last year Robbie reminded me that it was him!....not that it mattered much cause we both got our butts blistered for that one....although the Catholic guilt I carried for shooting my cousin the past 50 years was way worse in my view.....oh!...and Matts fine!...plus thru the years Rob and I have both learned that pay back is a Mother!
