My earlier two shares prompt me to put down some thoughts (not thesis!) It is now well understood that human kind is not good at looking too far into the future. Or that if it can, it would rather ignore a certain consequence if its likely to happen so far into future that it is not on a particular groups watch - not my watch, not my problem. Very few countries have been able to drive their policies in such a fashion that they, while may be tough in the short term, are obviously good in the longer run. They are the ones that have kept their population low and made high levels of demands on their industries to keep pollution levels in check. These are the countries that fare better on environment performance index and yet have high consumption levels. These are the countries that most Indians aspire to migrate to in hope for a better life. The pity of the matter is that it only takes some political will and really, an HONEST approach, to get many things right. And we seem to get most every thing wrong these days. What disappoints is that government after government, political party after political party DO NOT REALLY CARE to leave the country in a better shape than they found it.
