My eldest daughter, Schafer, left last evening for a two year assignment with the Aga Khan Foundation in Mail, West Africa. Schafer had dreamed about living and working in Africa since she was a sophmore at Sidwell where she was inspired by her then French teacher, a native of Senegal. Schafer will be working on USAID programs designed to help those much less fortunate then she. Besides being smart, polished, educated, caring and beautiful, Schafer is also (Hebrew alliteration), Hashis Chail - a Woman of Valor. I salute her courage and fortitude. She thanked me last night at the airport for letting her do this.....so proud to be her Dad.
