“My election is victory for the Sporting Fraternity”-NEW GNOC PRESIDENT ELECT The newly elected President of The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) Alhagie Momodou Dibba has said that his election victory is victory for the Sporting Fraternity and together they will strive for improved performance for Sports development in The Gambia. Mr Dibba made this remark on Saturday in his inaugural meeting after being voted unopposed as President of GNOC by 17 out of the 24 affiliated Associations. We hereby reproduce the full text of his inaugural Speech: “After 2 years in office with an unblemished record of achievement. My nomination for re-election by the overwhelming majority of National Sports Associations is a clear testimony of the Quality of leadership they have at their disposal. The February 2011 elective Congress that brought me into office as President, gave me the opportunity to fulfil my 10 points Agenda which was a promise to all NSA’s. It’s on the basis of my record performance having tremendous support from the Executive Bureau and National Sports Associations that gave rise to my re-election for a full term. I will say thank you for the election victory and implore on all National Sports Association to come on board to enable us all, achieve the desired objectives and goals of our Olympic Movement in The Gambia. My election victory is victory for the Sporting Fraternity and together we will strive for improved performance for Sports development in The Gambia. Against this background, the following Development strategies shall be deployed to further consolidate the gains we have already registered. • The GNOC Executive Board shall continue to give the necessary guidance and support to National Sports Associations to improve on their performance for Sports Excellence and development of the Athletes • Ensure that Administrative and Technical courses for National Sports Associations are intensified during 2013 – 2016. • Inspire and encourage the young entrants in the Executive Board to take a leading role in the activities of the Board • Continue to Harmonize one relationships with all National Sport Associations to enable them take advantage of the benefits that the Executive Board is able to offer • Extend our collaboration with sister NOC’s International Federations, the Commonwealth Games Federation, Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation and Olympic Solidarity to mobilize resources for the development of Sports in all its facets in The Gambia. • Support the effort of high performance Gambia Athletes to excel in their quest to bring glory to the motherland. • Maintain in the GNOC, a reliable, competent and forward looking workforce relevant to our desired aims and objective • Continue to be open, transparent, and accountable to the National Sport Associations, International Federation, Commonwealth Games Federation and Olympic Solidarity in all our dealings as a sporting entity. • Strengthen the harmonious relationship with the Government of The Gambia especially the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Council to further achieve the aspirations of the Olympic Movement in The Gambia. • Continue the workable relationship with the print and electronic Media through the Media Committee of the GNOC to disseminate relevant and useful information to the sporting fraternity, the general public and the world at large. Finally, may I seize this opportunity to thank the Commissioners appointed to conduct the elections in a free, fair and transparent manner. To thank the newly elected President of the Gambia Football Federation and his team for a well calculated campaign and a decisive victory. To thank the President of the Republic H.E Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya AJJ Jammeh for his overwhelming support and creating the sporting environment for all Gambian in the spirit of friendship, fair play and justice. To thank all National Sport Associations for taking part in this crucial elections which is mandatory on the GNOC. To thank the Executive Board of the GNOC, for their tenacity and willingness to serve. To our opponents despite the boycott, to have the determination and courage - Now that the elections are over, to bury the hatchet, come together and we work together as an Olympic family to achieve the Olympic Dream for the country.
