My email to F&G this morning (CCing the BOD): Ms. Thorton and Mr. Gooch, Just in case you are planning any more public statements or instructions to associates, I wanted to give you a brief report from the past 3 days on the picket lines in Billerica, as I know it is imperative for you to have your finger on the pulse of Our customers. (Since youre likely wont remember this well because you havent visited Our stores in weeks, allow me to remind you that We have three fabulous stores in that wonderfully close-knit, home-pride town: #7, #17 and #44.) Over the past three days, it seems as though the customer support has not dwindled in the slightest. There is product on the shelves that is available to buy, but the customers are not shopping. Instead they are beeping to the picketers, waving, giving an emphatic thumbs-up sign, and shouting things like, ARTIE T!!! and I JUST SHOPPED AT SHAWS!!! and KEEP IT UP!!! and WE HOPE ARTIE T IS BACK SOON! from their passing cars. Parents are rolling down the windows in the back so their children can wave and chant ARTIE T, ARTIE T!!!! Several ask for updates, and we have been telling them about the BODs dragging of their feet and about your decision to withhold pay. Weve also been highlighting the fabulous ad in the Lowell Sun that was funded by Our loyal and irreplaceable customers. (Have you seen it yet? Its so exciting!) In conversation, the drivers often raise the subject of the job fair....but dont worry: they dont take it seriously either. They are taking next Tuesdays rally seriously, and so many have RSVPd to us that theyll be there. (What great customers We have!!!!) Several customers have even taken the time to come off the road and talk to us in-person for several minutes to affirm their allegiance to the cause and tape their competitor grocery receipts to the store window. Some are even spending time holding picket signs alongside us. Fear not: for every beep and every wave and every thumbs up we get, we picketers are returning a big, loud and proud, THANK YOU!!!! because thanking Our customers is the Market Basket way. We also reinforce to them, WELL SEE YOU WHEN ARTIE T IS BACK! The pulse of the people we serve can be summed up as follows: They are not backing down. I repeat, THEY ARE NOT BACKING DOWN. The boycott will continue until Arthur T. Demoulas is back. Since Our customers voices, actions and dollars are voting loudly and unwaveringly, you would be wise to take this into account. I welcome you on the Billerica picket lines to personally address Our customers and assure them you understand their concerns. I have extra signs in my car that I will happily let you use. Bring sunblock and a rain poncho, but you dont have to worry about bringing snacks or water because Our customers and Our local businesses have consistently kindly kept us well-hydrated and well-fed over the past ~3 weeks. Well be out there, rain or shine. Thats the news - at least from Billerica. I suspect when other towns role-call in, you will find the reports much the same. You might want to share this with your new PR firm. (Just like the previous PR firm...it seems like the current PR firm is lacking critical insight and information about Our customers.) ~Kathryn Jussaume Destroismaison Part-time employee for 18 years, currently serving in Billerica #17 5th generation MB customer, currently boycotting all MBs until ATD is back
