My entry into the 2014 Darwin Awards. Went up on the roof trying - TopicsExpress

My entry into the 2014 Darwin Awards. Went up on the roof trying to clean our skylights. Ladder on first floor roof slipped as I was coming down. Thankfully it caughr on the gutter so I didnt tumble onto the bricks. Unfortunately I skiced about 6of my fingers on the too sharp rungs of a cheap aluminum ladder. Seem to have cut a tendon on one finger so probably in surgery tomorrow. Was suspended from a ladder held only by a gutter, with inoperative fingers, one leg in mid air and one caught in a rung at head height. Gingerly worked that one out though the roof is quite blood spattered. Crawled back through the window and elevated my feet as I was quite dizzy. Luckily my mobile was nearby so I called 111 (911) as I was not ok to drive between fingers and dizziness. 15 minutes later, instead of a siren I hear thopa thopa thopa. They heard I fell off a ladder and had sent about a dozen medics and the Westpac helicopter. I was a wee bit embarrassed about that. But they locked up the house, fed my cat and chickens and flew me off to some hospital in Manukau. Awaiting surgeon for final reading, but all think the same prognosis. Pain in the neck (fingers) but likely to be fine after stitches and surgery. Not sure how work is going to be since I am on computer all day. Guess I can type with my thumbs or ekse get one of those Stephen Hawking things. Praising God it was not worse and thanking the St Johns team. They took a picture of the ladder setup. I think thats for the Darwin Award judges. Oh, and it turns out the skylight dirt was on the inside. Feeling sheepish.
