My family gathers on our outdoor deck ...my Mother ...my Wife enjoying the smell of fresh flowers ... the press of heartfelt hugs and kisses... My youngest brother alert at the barbecue .... the art of grilling his hidden specialty ...my children move about ....one watching ESPN baseball ...another in the garage ... his muscle flexing ... barbells in hand ... my two daughters on the deck ... the older sharing tales of 2 years of nuptials ... my youngest giving thought to every word.... I sit by Mother ... her eyes quiet ... soft ... her memories drifting to my Brother ... his soul received only 7 weeks past ... visions of my Dad moving into her view ... she unconsciously squeezes my hand. ... I watch her sigh ... her head turns away ... her arm moves across her face...as though trying to wipe away the past ...my dog Danny lays his head on her lap...animals bring what few of us can.....I remain quiet ...words of no use...sometimes it is better to remain still ....then break the silence..... We are about to gather ... 14 seats waiting ....Grace will be shared...a practice we have done since my youth ... a gift I never take for granted .... My Mom ... my Wife will sit next to each other as they do every Sunday...they love each other deeply.. the gift of their children securing their hearts . I close my eyes and say a private prayer to my Brother ... to my Dad ....a small request .... to touch my Moms soul...to caress his wifes broken heart.....to bring comfort to his grieving children....to bring them peace ...to bring them a Mothers Day gift wrapped in dreams of the heart. I close my eyes ...the sight of doves fall into my thoughts...the scent of fresh roses touch my my face...I know my prayers are being answered. ... My Brothers blue eyes smiling brightly ... my Dads police shield shining on this Mothers Day evening... I know in my deepest soul that they have come to her..to my Mother..to his family...to wipe their tears...to hold them close and whisper love songs into their hearts....Peace Always
