My father has told me many times of the stories of the The Forum of the 70’s. The days of Ruben Olivares, ChuChu Castillo, Alexis Arguello, Jesus Pimentel, Danny “Little Red” Lopez and Bobby Chacon. Times when fans would feel the boxing ring with money after a great fight. As a youngman, I was treated to The Great Western Forum and Monday Night Boxing. Watching Jorge “ Maromero” Paez, Jibaro Perez, Dinamita Estrada, Chicanito Hernandez, David Kamau, Cutman Chuck Bodak and San Diego Fighters David Gutierrez, Larry Dixon Jr, Juan Samuel Cruz and Billy Johnson. Saturday, the Forum was brought back to life and the Marquez vs Alvarado fight lived up to the legends that came before them. With Marquez and Alvarado hittin’ the deck it was great fight!! There was no need for clowns, stilt walkers or circus acts it was just ol’ fashion boxing. The great part is I didn’t pay $80 for PPV. Seeing it on TV the blue lights and the seating made the place look like the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Since California has quickly become a hotbed of professional boxing, I can’t wait to see what epic fights will take place at The Forum. With Madison Square Garden in New York City titled “The Mecca of Boxing.” With the help of Oscar de la Hoya, Golden Boy Boxing building a bridge with Bob Arum’s Top Rank, The Forum will soon be titled “The Promise Land of Boxing.” I can’t wait to fight there!!!
