My father really wanted to come to D&D with me tonight to sit in and watch us play. So I checked with the DM and explained to dad that wed be playing until 10pm and he was just there to watch. He didnt care. Dad introduced my brother and I to Dungeons and Dragons back in the day. He loved playing and he knows all about the game. He had an amazing time. There was adventure, laughter, fighting, real wine, imaginary wine. He had a ball. A couple times during the evening I saw him making the sign of the cross. So on the way home I asked him what that was all about. Thanking God that my son is so blessed with friends like that. Dad is turning 70 in a month. Hes very reflective. Going thru some big changes like a stroke and a divorce and turning 70 all in a span of a couple of years just has him lost in nostalgia. Theres lots of happy tears and trips down memory lane. Its beautiful and sad and uplifting and gut wrenching all at the same time. Im just trying to soak it all in, trying to be as present in the moment as possible and hang onto it all as long as I can. I want to slow down time like the Baku (Ask a Star Trek nerd).
