My favorite cartoon (which I think may have become my Life Verse) - TopicsExpress

My favorite cartoon (which I think may have become my Life Verse) is the one where Dennis the Menace is sitting in the corner but says to himself….”but I’m standing up on the inside”. Today I’m writing my missive from the balcony of our condo on Anastasia Island across the river from St. Augustine, Florida. Yesterday I spent the day walking the beach and holding the hand of my grandson Fletcher and granddaughter Lyla…and when I got back to the condo I held the newest arrival, Sutton. I didn’t spend much time worrying over the current government shutdown or the latest threats coming from the White House, or their buddies in the media. I quickly realized that in the eyes of my grandchildren I was needed for more important things…like reading books, playing with little trucks and helping someone smaller than I “jump in the waves”. I am in tourism and so I am really sorry to see many of my friends having trouble taking their tour groups into the sites. I am sorry that a number of historic sites that ARE NOT owned by the government are being shut down due to road closings and threats by the NPS (from the White House). But I hope that this little exercise in being “cut off” by our government in a power play helps us all realize what is important in this world and what is not. Oh, I know that it’s important to make money and have a career. I know that we entrepreneurs can’t stand the thought of taking a handout from the government when we can do it ourselves…so I’m not saying you should stop working and stay home. What I am saying is to remember how tenuous your relationship is to the government which has become a consumer rather than just a provider of certain rights. The current Medical Scheme is a way for the current regime in Washington to gain money and power and although you may think that your political connections may help you…remember, all it took for Joseph to lose his power in Egypt and the Jews to become slaves to the Pharaoh was a change in management (“there arose a new king in Egypt that did not know Joseph”). So I’m going to enjoy my breakfast with the grandkids and my time at the pool this morning. And Sharon and I will have a great time on our walks around the old town section of St. Augustine. And I will use this short visit as a renewal for when I get back to shaking the money tree…but I’ll also burn it into my mind again that although those folks occupying the “peoples house” in Washington may think they can control us by squeezing us a little….our hearts burn with the light of family, friends, and freedom and though we might have to sit in the corner we are still…standing up on the inside. I’ll see y’all down by the water line…burning off my motel tan.
