My favorite time of vacation each year are my early morning study. This year, I looked at resurrection. I will post my findings, thoughts and some conclusions in the days to come. It is my hope to stir up your pure minds to pick up the ball and carry it also. Monday: Part 1 The writings of the Old Testament speaks directly of the resurrection but not nearly as well defined as those in the New Testament. The combined writings reveal a progression of revelation by God to the people of His choosing. The person of Jesus stands between the former and latter people of God. He defines what was told to the saints of old and provides a foundation for the Apostles who were sent in these last days. Those of the former time, like Abraham longed to see His day and those of the latter days look back to His Earthly ministry and revere it as the divine commentary on God’s message to His people. Abraham referred to it in his thinking (Heb 11:17-19 when he reasoned by faith that God must be able to raise the dead. “By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son; it was he to whom it was said, “In Isaac your descendants shall be called.” He considered that God is able to raise people even from the dead, from which he also received him back as a type.” In one of the most beloved passages of the Bible, where Jesus is consoling Martha after the death of her brother Lazarus, Jesus says, (John 11.23-26), “YOUR BROTHER WILL RISE AGAIN” “Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” People who possess the faith like Abraham will reason resurrection, but this faith, which is now, in Christ will assure them of what Jesus spoke to Martha about. Resurrection is not only what He can do, but it speaks of Who He is. It is not just that Jesus “can” raise the dead, but it is that Jesus Himself “IS” the resurrection. So, to study the subject of resurrection is to study a facet of Christ Himself. Just as Jesus is the “door of the sheep”, the “light of the world”, the “way the truth and the life” etc. and He is also “THE RESURRECTION”. Therefore, there cannot be an exploration of this subject that does not point directly to Jesus. Any thought on resurrection other than this, be it from religions of the world or scientific thought is a dead-end street if it is not rooted in Christ Himself.
