My fondest memories are of my grandparents. Pop used to bring us - TopicsExpress

My fondest memories are of my grandparents. Pop used to bring us to school every morning, and boy, you better have been out that door as soon as he beeped, you didnt want to hear a second beep! Ill never forget the morning I wouldnt get out of the car cause I hated school and had severe separation anxiety from my mother. Poor thing, he was really mad at me cause I wouldnt get out of the car, I am chuckling thinking about it. Every year my grandparents went to Texas to visit my uncle Matt & fam. I used to absolutely hate that dreadful morning they left. Youd think I lost my best friends. I would get up and look out my bedroom window at them packing their car and cry. When we were little we spent most of the summers at Nanny & Pops. Nanny would always make us Swedish pancakes, banana milkshakes, yogurt, Mac n cheese, danish puff, veggie with dill dip, bagels with cream cheese and olives, and so many other things. Shed take us swimming and wed all hang on her as she pulled us around, it was always a real treat when pop came in the pool since he didnt come in as often as the rest of us. I spent many sick days on their couch, missing school. Nanny always would baby us making us jello water or whatever we could keep down. Id lay on the couch and I can hear the sounds like they were yesterday. Me on one couch, nanny on another and pop at the dining room table- crunching on his homemade chopped veggie salad with his yummy honey mustard dressing, and potato chips or cheez its and Ice water. He was always watching the Love Boat, or Murder She Wrote, or Columbo. I always wanted to go to the Core group at their house cause I loved all of their friends, and loved Nannys refreshments! Lol... The best was going to the prayer meeting with them and staying out really late, and going to the diner and I would get jello with whipped cream. Their house was and is always open, I like to call it the black hole. I can go there with a 10 minute intention and end up there for a few days. When I was little I remember always going there for everything and anything, nan can I have a can of corn or a cup of milk, a tsp of sugar or a roll of toilet paper. As soon as you would get in the door the smells of food would intoxicate you. From Nans pork & sauerkraut to pops freshly broiled steak with French fries, and always making sure you had a bite of food before you went back home. I attribute my love for food, cooking & baking to my Nan, and my mom. Nan always said pull up a chair and watch. Our family parties, bbqs, daily and nightly get togethers for no reason, they were the best times. Weve got the best close knit family. You assume everyone else has a family like this, and then find out its rare. I feel bad for others who do not have this special bond. Poppy was the hardest working family man. Hed do anything for his family. I always loved when he answered uncle Steves business line- Eurotronix Bob Marnell speaking. Lol, hes the cutest guy I know. I loved his green Thermos & metal lunchbox. Pop was the male figure for me for a lot of my years since I was always around him. And hes one of the reasons my son bears the middle name, Robert. When I hear that name he comes to mind and Im reminded of all the wonderful things he is, and what a strong namesake. Thank you to the best grandparents in the world and thank you for the best memories! Love you both with all my heart. {Sorry its so long ;) }
