My former pastor has expressed interest in my Volt, and although he just told me in email that hell probably get a used Mercury, he wanted to know who made the Volt. Here was my response: Chevy makes the Volt. I like it because its environmentally responsible, yet practical with our current infrastructure. I estimate Im using 1.25% of the gasoline that I was using with my compact Kia Spectra5. Thats not quite zero, but if everybody made that kind of reduction, we would put a serious dent in climate change! And in a few short years, I predict it will be practical to go 100% electric. I didnt really need a new car. My Kia was running just fine after 8 years. But the more I learned about the devastating effects of climate change, seeing graphic evidence about its effect on every creature from polar bears to puffins, as well as the human toll -- Superstorm Sandy, the horrific California droughts that threaten our very food supply, not to mention many families livelihoods and survival, the wildfires -- and the prospect of invasive species moving into an area, including insect swarms, I knew I had every responsibility to reduce my impact if at all able. And I was able. So I did it. I couldnt have lived with myself if I had continued to burn 20 or so gallons of gas every month, knowing that every gallon of gas puts some 20 pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere. This has become a planetary emergency. Entire island nations are threatened with submersion, while other places are enduring punishing droughts, with the concomitant reduction of food supply and increase in disease spread. You cant really keep clean if you cant wash, right? Not to preach to the preacher, but I am so passionate about this issue... Dont get me started! LOL Cheers, ~~Cheryl
