My friend, Helen, reminded me this day is the anniversary of the last report from the Edmond Fitzgerald before being lost to the depths of Lake Superior. I have been moved by this story for a long time, but during my visit to Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, I was immersed in its mystery. I did this blog post after that, with links to a really good YouTube video tribute accompanied by Gordon Lightfoots haunting song. Of course I had to watch and sing along again and thought yall might enjoy, too. This is definitely a must-see in MI. As the museums brochure says, “Of the 6,000 ships lost on the Great Lakes, the Edmund Fitzgerald remains the most famous and mysterious.” While the museum has the recovered ships bell, to this day there has never been any sign of human remains. RIP, brave sailors everywhere.
