My friend Melanie gave me the number 10. Here are 10 facts that yall may not know about me: 1. According to my parents, I pulled myself up onto my feet for the first time when I was seven days old. Ive always had a hard time believing this, but they both swear to it. Mama says that I never crawled. I went from squirming to walking in fairly short order and very early in my development. My earliest memory Im standing in my crib and shaking my bum with the song Shake Your Booty playing in the background. Both my parents were laughing and I remember making the connection between my dancing and my father smiling. 2. On the other hand, I was very late to talk. Id been born tongue-tied and the doctors had to snip the bottom of my tongue away from the bottom of my mouth so that I wouldnt have a speech impediment. I seem to remember being about two when I started talking. My first word was fee fie. Id just seen the golden arches and wanted french fries. Dad flipped the car illegally and to get my fries. 3. Im freakishly shy. Nobody believes me because I seem really outgoing, but its totally a learned behaviour. Going places where I dont know anybody or having to talk to people I dont know causes major anxiety. It has for as long as I can remember. 4. I have no fear of speaking in front of crowds. None. Whether Im acting, teaching, leading a seminar, it doesnt matter. Ive spoken in front of crowds of nearly 1000 on a moments notice with no notes and was at ease. 5. I love airplane rides and roller coasters. 6. I hate glass elevators, high balconies / tall buildings, and water slides. 7. I hate haggling over prices and will almost always pay whats being asked or recruit one of my awesome friends who is good at it to help me out. 8. I love bartering for services and will gladly trade dance lessons, personal training, or nutrition consultation for massages, hair cut/color/style, or whatever. Make me an offer and Ill at least consider it. 9. I wish I was more like my grandmother. I think of her everyday. I keep her picture where it reminds me to follow her example. She was a lovely woman who genuinely saw the very best in people. She was so loved by her family that, no matter what personal grievances folks might have had, they always were kind and respectful in her presence. It wasnt because they were afraid of her, but rather because they knew how much shed hurt to know her loved ones were at odds. We all loved her so much, wed put aside differences to honor her. 10. Im a compulsive reader. If words are in front of me, I cannot not read them. Ill read the back of labels, ingredients lists, stuff in other languages. Doesnt matter. Leave a comment if youd like me to leave you a number.
