My friend Peter committed suicide this year. It was a tremendous blow. Through @echosight and 1 in 20 Im fortunate to have an outlet for discussing #mentalhealth, now on The New Yorker: Photo Booth Alex Gilwit @_stupidface (words) Erin Fein @psychictwin (photo) Brooklyn, NY Being alone is the most dangerous thing in the world. It is the time in our lives that we are most susceptible to the darker forces within, forces that have the power to transform the beautiful, low-hanging vines in a wooded, but un-populated forest into a million nooses. When I first noticed Peter was missing I went in and found a dirty plate he had obviously left because he was in a hurry and planned to clean when he got back. Stupidly, I thought he would be coming back, to clean his dirty plate. I don’t know why. // Natalya Victoria Hinde 16, Tenby, Wales I think that mental health awareness is extremely important. Its important that people talk about it and that its not a subject that is avoided. You can close your eyes to the world and pretend issues arent real but the heart will always feel them.
