My friend (of colour) and I once saw an older larger stocky white man have a go at a younger white woman so we went over to see what was up. We ended up talking with him for an hour by the end of which he had revealed to us that he had had a go at her because he had seen her talking to a young black man and because he worked and after working all he had to look forward to was beers and the telly; so really he had had a go at her out of frustration with his own life... Perhaps this is why people become racist for a sense of identity when not much else is going right for them... and why it becomes harder to let go of racism once it becomes wrapped up in your sense of identity.. Perhaps if I met that older man today I would suggest to him to explore the website meetup with its seemingly infinite ways of meeting folk in your locality... and as a means to kickstarting a life again at anytime... Alienating those who are racist and already feel marginalised will not ameliorate racism...
