My friend of the day is SueEllen Trout of Wichita, KS, and I just - TopicsExpress

My friend of the day is SueEllen Trout of Wichita, KS, and I just joined her new page (see below link) called Prairie Daughter. At left, she is shown with her daughter, and at right she is with her granddaughter. SueEllen is from Americas Breadbasket, and she graduated from Eureka High School in 1969. She says I recall very few of my classmates who were confused about who they were. We were raised to believe we could make a difference, and we were taught self-sufficiency. We knew humility because we were very small in the grand scheme of things. Our parents were from the Greatest Generation, and they helped build America into a superpower after WW II. They saw prairie wheat feed the nation and the world. We were a patriotic people, and we still are today. We knew that no matter how late you stayed up the night before, duty on the farm would call early the next morning. There would be no slackers because cows had to milked and fed. . . In my class, city girls dated and married farm boys as was done for generations. We were not materialistic, and supported our small businesses. They knew every child by name. Our life was not always out of a Norman Rockwell painting, and we were exposed to both the good and the bad. Not everyone had a perfect childhood, but for those of us who assimilated the virtues and values of the Heartland, we recall those days as idyllic.
