My game of the year for 2012 was Borderlands 2. 2013 saw the release of the brilliant GTA V (only made better on the ps4 this year). Since It only seems inappropriate for me to pick games that Ive worked on as my favorites, my game of the year for 2014 was Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes. Ive clocked almost 50 hours in this game, and EVERY time I play it, its a different experience. Just a casual run through, and I find myself in firefights or stealth situations in places that certainly, Ive seen, but now see differently since I actually have to hide there, or take cover. There is more substance in this one base camp than I found in most entire games last year. The bonus objectives and unpredictable enemies make even a random quick hostage rescue rewarding. If youre not into violence in games, the Metal Gear games always have a non-lethal option. These games show an ugly side of war that isnt just glamorous like many other games. But you get to really be the good guy, when youre rescuing POWs or knocking out enemies. Of course, you can blow everything up too if you wanna just let off steam, or only have an AK. Also, it got me to dig into the history of US operations in Cuba in the 70s... and read more about the Cold War, and how their fiction ties into documented history. Certainly, I wish the game was longer. I want more. But a bigger game doesnt mean a better game. I thought we wouldve realized that after Journey (also, an amazing game). Maybe Im a MGS junky, but I cant wait for The Phantom Pain this year. https://youtube/watch?v=ltH1eWxZutE
