My gamer son has gradually been pushing for a Windows machine. Obvious reasons. He likes his MacBook Pro but... So a few months ago I tried to put Windows 8 on his Macbook using Parallels. Huge fail. First, you cant install Windows using the downloaded file b/c you need an ISO or whatever. A huge pain. So I went back to MS and bought the 8.1 backup disk. However I dont have an optical drive so had to use the Superdrive. Anyway so this sits collecting dust for months--since March. Finally I tried again. Screw Parallels, Ill just use Bootcamp. Then of course, the inevitable glitches. It wants to download some Windows driver/support software first, but I keep getting network erors. So a call to AppleCare --finally they give me a special link to download the support stuff. Then I copy the ISO things from the DVD to the thumb drive (which i had to go to Office Depot to buy--who has a thumb drive any more?) -- then I use Boot Camp to install. Finally it works. But then it turns out hte 20G of disk partition was not enough. So today I downloaded another program and it helped us increase the partition. Finally, its all working.
