My grandpa told me about a time when the people of Bay Mills had - TopicsExpress

My grandpa told me about a time when the people of Bay Mills had nothing to eat that winter but bread called galette (sp?) with lard because the only income anyone had that year was from blueberry picking (if you stayed here) or hard industrial labor (if you left). I remember that one of the men who left to get work froze to death walking from dollar settlement to the Rez because his ride didnt go to the Rez and he wanted to visit his family for the holidays. Heres where Im going to piss you all off... The defining essence of our people has been our ability to endure great suffering and emerge better for the experience. This BS I hear about how cutting huge salaries = suffering, or how the existing unemployment, food assistance, energy assistance, and Christmas help = suffering? I ask you who purport to be willing to sacrifice for the better of our people and yet flinch at the order to do your part, did God not give you a backbone and two balls to handle the tough times? Have not your elders taught you what it means to survive in Indian Country? Ive made my sacrifices willingly and will continue to do so with a willing heart until we have reached the time where I no longer must do so. Because my grandparents did for me, as theirs did for them.
