My grandparents keep a special calendar in their kitchen. Aside - TopicsExpress

My grandparents keep a special calendar in their kitchen. Aside from the typical things one might put in a calendar (like appointments and such), they write in the birth date of just about everyone they know. Each year, they copy all of these recurring dates from the old calendar into the new one. However, each year there are some changes. The happy changes are the new additions…typically births or new relationships. On the other hand, some birthdays aren’t copied into the new calendar. Those dates represent people who are no longer around to celebrate another year of life. I have heard that dealing with death gets easier. But I find this not to be the case. Each death of a loved one stings like the first…and that pain does not diminish with time. Instead, I just seem to grow accustomed to their absence. There would be no room for the new birthdays in the calendar if all of the old ones were still there…and that is my main solace. For those who have passed this year, rest in peace. Although your birthday won’t be copied into the new calendar, you are not forgotten.
