My great-grandparents came from Ireland and Czechoslovakia over - TopicsExpress

My great-grandparents came from Ireland and Czechoslovakia over 100 years ago. They came to America with the wish of a better life for their family. I cant speak for anyone else but I am grateful to them for the courage to make that uncertain journey. The Irish were NOT welcomed! They were thought of as the lowest of the low. Called peasants and treated like dirt! But they were proud people. They did the jobs that the elite would not do and saved the money they made. They lived together in single roomed apartments, and scrubbed floors and cleaned houses for a living. Food was not plentiful and schooling only elementary level, if any. You see they ALL needed to work to be able to live!!! Each generation succeeded because of the blood and sweat of the previous ones. I was raised by two hard working parents who passed on the honor of having a job and giving that job 100%+. My father never finished High School. I was the first to go to College and my daughter the first to Graduate College. My father and all my uncles proudly served in the US Military and my son followed in their path. No one in my family was ever on welfare. If they argued that times were rough or they hated their jobs and bosses the elders would smack them in the head and tell them to be thankful! Do you see the pattern here???? When the police beat the Irish back then we fought back by becoming policemen, firemen and Garbageman. We helped to organize unions to protect the workers. This is what needs to be done by the future generations, but they need to give it time! Change happens slowly. Please be patience but remain diligent.
