My great great grandfather was WW Heartsill and his daughter, Minnie Whaley, was my great grandmother. WW was in the first company - WP Lane Rangers (he was first to sign up) to leave Marshall for the War Between the States. He kept a daily diary documenting the activities of the company and self published the diary upon return to Marshall where he was a local businessman, Mayor, volunteer fireman and very prominent in Fraternal organizations. He donated $100 towards the first permanent building of the First Methodist church where he served as officer for over 40 years. Here is a picture of the WP Lane Rangers in front of the church and also a picture of his home and a detailed description of the amenities of the house and grounds that he sent to two of his daughters away at college in Tennessee. The home, unfortunately now demolished, was just south of Marshall High School.
