My guitars range from a 1959 Gretsch to mid-80s Burny’s to modern day PRS and Fenders to custom made instruments and state-of-the-art guitars like the Aristides. On all the guitars except an Eddie Van Halen, a Gibson Birdland, and a custom built Telecaster, I use Gibson Vintage strings, usually 9 or 10s. Tonight I played my 1959 Gibson Les Paul strung with D’Addario NYXLs, a string set new to the market. My reaction is that the NYXLs give a guitar more punch, more power, and the bendability of the strings is probably the best I have seen. I literally don’t feel like the E or B will break. That said, after 2 hours of playing I do find the Gibson Vintage strings to be a bit warmer and better suited for my style of playing. But I encourage everyone to try the NYXLs, especially if you have a guitar that needs a little more “oomph.” They are pretty exceptional strings. And if you bend a lot, you are gonna love them.
