My heart aches at the news of another brother who has given his life in the service of his community. I did not know Melvin Santiago, but I know what he was...a young dedicated servant who wanted to make a difference, just like so many of the officers I have trained over the years. My condolences & sympathies go out to Melvins family. It grieves me that he was chosen by some worthless scumbag to be the object of his hatred...there is no greater hate than to hurt someone else because of your beliefs. To the men & women of law enforcement, especially my own guys, this is the new norm, so watch your six, be careful at all times, expect the unexpected, remember its not you..its them. Be proud of who you are & what you do, protect & serve the citizens of your community. P.O. Santiago, I mourn your loss & I salute you as a true American Hero.
