My heart has been so heavy all day with news of this world losing one of its best, Mrs Carol Shilling. I have been thinking of all the things I learned from her, trying to pinpoint how she was able to get through to me when nobody else could. And then I took a moment to read her Facebook page, and it was all very clear. She had a gift. A gift for connecting with kids at an age where it seems impossible. She didnt baby us, she didnt paint the real world to be perfect, and she pushed us to be the best version of ourselves. I know, beyond a doubt, I would not be the person I am without her guidance. I knew I wasnt the only SHS alumni to feel this way, but reading all the posts reminds me of her powers. Not all of us find what we are so great at, and she did. She had such a huge impact on so many lives and for that I am thankful to have been one of them. I pray for her family. I can only imagine the heartache they feel. Now, I will reread this post and imagine her with her red pen correcting all of my grammar mistakes, asking me where in the world did I learn my awful penmanship and telling me I should try to look more presentable on days when we go on camera! Hold fast to your dreams as you climb the heights of your success. Let no challenge or obstacle deter you from the destiny that calls to your soul. This is your time to fly; the endless sky is your domain.
