My heart is heavy this morning and I need to share...as most of you know, Michael and I just went through a major storm in our life when he was diagnosed with cancer. God came through and he is healed! Hallelujah! The thing I want to share with you all is this.....There is very little, and I mean little help financially for people going through cancer treatment. You can get help in the way of gas cards, hotel lodging, meals and transportation but beyond that, its very limited. It also depends on your age and what kind of cancer you have. I will tell you that most people are not prepared for something like this. We were not expecting a cancer diagnosis and were shocked to say the least! Illinois no longer has temporary disability or even short term. You cant get unemployment or workers compensation when going through cancer treatment. Michael has had to be off of work for over a month and that doesnt count all the days missed for appointments, testing and procedures. You dont stay home when you dont feel well because you are trying to make up for the loss of income. Friends, I just want to ask you...plead with you...please....when you walk past that fundraiser booth and dont stop, a family or person will do without! There are people who lose their jobs and homes because this horrible disease robs their lives in every aspect! Please search your hearts and give to those who dont have. You can donate locally. Cancer is not a localized thing...unfortunately, its everywhere! Most hospitals have information on charities that you can donate to. Cancer institutions will also have this information. You can even start your own fund or fundraiser! We must look out for one another! Its not about giving a handout, its not about people getting something for nothing....its about humanity and compassion. We need to stop being a prideful people and start being a serving people! Im sure just about everyone knows someone or has dealt with cancer before. Its ugly and its horrible! Its a terrible disease that not only destroys the person but also their lives!
