My heartfelt thanks to Lord Jeacock and Lady Jeacock, for the faultless hospitality at the shooting party at Jeacock Towers, which made this New Years Eve one I will treasure the memory of for many a year. Please accept my apologies for leaving first-thing this morning without saying farewell but my ‘gillie’ Alistair and I were both sporting hangovers of such enormity that Yorkshire simply could not contain them without risking severe geological embuggerment. My thanks also to the brave footmen and valets who stepped-in to free my coach from the marsh at the southern end of the Jeacock estate after the horses were startled by an unusually rambunctious peacock.
