My husband and I were able to successfully use Ecological Breastfeeding as birth control between our last two children, giving baby 2 1/2 years of moms sole attention and breastmilk and giving my body time to restore nutrition stores. (Remember--it takes A LOT of nutrition to successfully carry a baby and breastfeed without it causing health problems for mom!) I night-weaned my 5th child at 2 1/2 years old, my cycle came back within a month or two and we were pregnant right after that with baby #6! This is a traditional practice used by women before the days of being able to depend on formula and NICUs in case of complications related to mom not having adequate levels of nutrition. The main reason why this does not work for everyone is because of our current topic: hormone imbalance, which causes moms cycle to return too quickly after babys birth even while breastfeeding.
