My husband is on the front lines whenever an LGBTQ person is assaulted by violence. My husband has helped LGBTQ survivors navigate the criminal justice system when they are targeted by hate. My husband has comforted LGBTQ people after he had to be the one to deliver the news that they are living with HIV. My husband has trained the NYPD and government officials on LGBTQ issues. My husband has written about LGBTQ issues in magazines and newspapers. My husband has presented about LGBTQ issues to governmental agencies and conferences and young people in New York and Hawaii. He is, without a doubt, THE most outstanding Filipino American advocate for LGBTQ issues in New York. Whether or not he wins this popularity contest, I hope that the Filipino American community recognizes that.
