My idea of a good site is where everyone helps each other out whether it be with advice on fishing venues or places to stay or kit to use. Ill kick off the places to stay with this place. We have been going to the Severn in Shropshire for well over a decade now and absolutely love the place, the people, the towns, the pubs and of course the fishing. We have stayed at many places over the years but this one The Ship Inn at Highley is the best yet. It could not be in a better spot for a fisherman. It is literally yards to the riverbank and it is good fishing all along the stretch. If you stay in the pub the fishing is free, if not it is a five pound note on the bank or in the second meadow beyond the style is Burts water, he will charge you £6 a day or do you a deal for the week lol, he is some charachter. The pub itself has been done out really nice and the food is superb, its run by Katrina and her better half Dave, both they are the staff are the most friendliest people you could meet. The pub has very very loose opening hours, it opens on time but closes normally when the last man is standing, for example me and Katrina were still drinking one day last year when the punters were coming down for breakfast. Highley has its own little village with shops where you can get provisions, ie a coop and a costcutter, there are takeaway chinese, curry and chip shops available too. The nearest tackle shops are equal distances apart to the left 8 miles away is the lovely town of Bewdley, plenty of shops and pubs to keep you occupied and two tackle shops, if you are lucky you might bump into Des Taylor in either the Severnside tackle shop or one of the pubs. To the right as you head out of Highley 8 miles away is Bridgnorth, a bigger town with an upper and lower area both have shops but the upper town is larger with more choice and has a market with fresh food on Saturdays. There is also a tackle shop here which is very good as well. All the surrounding pubs are ok but the Ship is the busiest in the area, with music most Saturday nights, other pubs worth visiting are The Old New Inn in Button Oak, lovely country pub with a great carvery, there is also entertainment on here Saturday nights during the summer. For those looking for a nice steak, we would recomment the Eagle and Serpent in Kinlet, about 4 miles out of town towards Bewdley. For those who want to take a break from the River fishing and try some lakes, furnacemill.net/ is very close by in Kinlet, recommended by Matt Hayes as well as ourselfs, good catches of carp and lakes with silver fish in if your prefer a change. Into Bridgnorth and you should try boldingspools Several lakes to choose from, personally I like the rudd fishing here, some lovely 1lb plus fish available. If you are looking for a nice week away or a short break give Katrina Flintoff a ring, I promise you wont be dissapointed with the venue or the fishing.
