My image of God is not an omnibenevolent one, at least not - TopicsExpress

My image of God is not an omnibenevolent one, at least not omnibenevolent by human standards; whether theres a higher standard is up for debate. Nor is it a vision of an egotistical jackass making up any excuse to torture the creatures that he/she/it has made. My God is not the idealized image of myself. My God is not a substitute for a father figure. My God has not been proclaimed as dead by the madman in the marketplace (though I hold that the madman was right!). Yet, having discussed God in the negative, I now find it impossible to define or discuss God in the positive, save that he/she/it is the metaphysical grounding of all being. This grounding is symptomatic a largeness that cannot be humanly comprehended, a vastness that cannot be humanly described, and perhaps even a sentience that cannot be humanly grasped. My God is a God of great expanse, of the Milky Way as well as of the Bible, of scientific fact as well as of religious belief. That is all.
