My job puts me in an odd position socially. In a given day, pretty much every person I interact with face to face is in some way related to work. All of my neighbors are my tenants. They go to church with me. Especially since Im on call 24/7 I always have to be more or less professional. When I go home from work Im still at work, because I live there. Its never more than a knock on the door or a phone call away. Ive learned over the last few years that its draining. Work is always with me, and so Im seemingly always in work mode. I dont often have the opportunity to relax and really be away from work. This means that I place great value on the friends that I have that arent associated with work, people like Steve Darling, David Warren, Dave Rawley, Daren Simkins, and Torren Woodward. The only place I typically go where I fell like Im away from work is usually at the range. Honestly my favorite thing about competing is being away from work with people I actually like. However most days my only social free space is here on FB. Thank you to all of you who contribute to this space where I can escape work and the need to maintain professional relationships even when Im not technically working.
