My kid sister, Ann Montgomery Cherry, died earlier this evening. - TopicsExpress

My kid sister, Ann Montgomery Cherry, died earlier this evening. She was a world-class flutist (I should say flautist, as she made her career in London). A Fellow of the Royal Academy, she taught at Trinity College of Music and loved her students and teaching. She first soloed with an orchestra when she was fifteen; her London début was at Wigmore Hall. She studied with, among others, the great William Kincaid, Maurice Sharp, and Severino Gazzelloni, specializing in contemporary music, though she also played Baroque and Classical. Until she was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease, she concertized widely and appeared on television. She was whip-smart, funny as funny can be, and kind and caring. She was deeply in love with her husband, who preceded her in death by a couple of months, and though I do not believe in an afterlife, I long to believe that she has gone to join him.
