My landlord wants us to learn the law. Termite Fumigation - TopicsExpress

My landlord wants us to learn the law. Termite Fumigation Update! (Also, if you have a neighborhood problem, see below for a solution I used.) For those who saw my previous post about having to relocate for two days in order for my landlord to tent & bomb the joint, it aint happening for the time being and will be revisited. Why? My landlord wants to provide the time so the tenants of the six units can learn about accepted re-location procedures put in place by legislative entities. We were also told, please do your homework and check the codes and find out what the situation really is. As you know, there is lots of mis-information out there so you might want to sort through. What I found interesting about her email was a line she buried about voluntarily increasing the amount we would be compensated for relocating in addition to the pro-rated rent, which she explained was all that was required of her legally. This was only offered when I explained that I would be headed to small claims court to collect my expenses for relocating. Ive dealt with neighborhood problems head on in the past, problems that were dangerous to human beings. Directly across the street from where I previously worked and lived for ten years, 24/7, was an ongoing crime scene. Years of neighborhood association meetings, City of Los Angeles attorneys, community meetings and the like resulted in two houses full of squatters and hookers in Hollywood, where someone was raped, and no solutions from any community leaders. That was after getting the gang members evicted. I was the only renter involved, every one else involved were owners. Heres how I forced the conservator responsible for the property to take action and board up the houses so they could not be entered: YouTube. I made 3 videos in ten days, showing the property, inside and out, including the LAPD making an arrest. These 3 videos resulted in telephone calls from the realtor selling the property and an attorney from the City of LA asking to help find a solution. The solution was shame. Both houses were boarded up as I requested by the conservator: windows out of the frames, 1/2 inch plywood inside and outside of the frame, bolted together. No additional calls needed to be made, no more meetings and the squatters left. When humans can hide behind the story they tell themselves about who they are in the world and how others should treat them based on that story, rude awakenings are necessary. Shame is a very powerful force for rude awakenings from suspension of disbelief, especially for those who see themselves as being in a position of power. Sometimes telling the story of your situation and why you believe its wrong can create change. Not always, but its a good start.
