My latest. I long to see a Middle East that is thriving – yes, - TopicsExpress

My latest. I long to see a Middle East that is thriving – yes, even for Muslims. Especially for Muslims since they populate most of the region. I think what the underdogs of the Middle East need – the women, the gays, the Christians – is a place where they can live and practice their faith however they see fit. If they could only find a country where women are given equal rights under the law, where gays can openly celebrate and even marry, where people of all races are allowed to hold property, vote and work freely, where the state religion does not supersede the rights of other to practice their own faith; where open markets lead to healthy employment rates and education is subsidized and available for all who seek it; where citizens don’t need health insurance to get important medical care…if only there were a place like that in the Middle East. A beacon of hope, something to light the way and make it easier for freedom-loving Middle Easterners to succeed. If you haven’t guessed by now there actually is a nation right in the Middle of all the chaos that supports and employs all these ideas. Her name is Israel. As a Christian I am commanded to love and defend Israel. As a woman of color who loves to vote, drive and not be stoned to death for getting raped I am compelled to love and defend Israel. They are the only nation in that region that has employed the very brand of democracy we claim leads to prosperity. Over 1.6 million Arabs live and work freely within the borders of Israel already. If we claim to stand in solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters who fell during the “Arab Spring” then we have no choice but to stand in solidarity with Israel. She is the only nation with the will and resources to spread freedom. ijreview/2014/07/162580-kira-davis-standing-freedom-means-standing-israel/
