My letter to Dad. Dad was a man of action, more than words. As a child I remember him always in action, whether just coming in from a long shift at work, sweating as he turned up the ground in our garden, fixing our car in the cold and darkness with a flashlight and tools, or securing my training wheels when he first taught me how to ride a bike. Eldon W. Olmstead was an incredible provider and protector, who was never afraid of hard work, who showed his love by trying his absolute best to ensure that his family never wanted for anything. My Dad was a man of wisdom, quiet strength, honesty, humbleness, and passion for good. He loved to have beauty around him--and that is why he married my Mother, his soulmate of 52 years. He loved the beach, the night sky, the stars, and I would find him many times staring at awe at Gods beauty sitting outside on the stairs of our home in Queens. He loved his family, his friends, his neighbors, always looking to help anyone, whether it was volunteering for food drives, playing Santa Clause for the kids to raise money for the church, or giving someone a ride somewhere because they lacked transportation. My Dad was a man of his word, and always backed up his words with the necessary action. I am Blessed to have such wonderful memories, and to have a foundation of love, peace and acceptance that my father helped create, along with my mother, from the start of my life. Before my fathers transition last week, I was able to spend time with him, hold and kiss his hands, and tell him what a wonderful father and example he has been. He let me know he was as proud of me as I was of him. I am grateful to God for such a wonderful father, and am at peace knowing he is in a place where he is whole and strong again. And I will live my life in honor of him. I will continue to live my Life with Peace and Acceptance in my heart. I will always strive to be more. I will be passionate and enthusiastic about helping others, to be of Service. I will appreciate all of Gods beauty all around me in people and places. I will hold my family in highest esteem. And most of all, I will never forget that Love should be at the center of it all. ~ Dawn T. Olmstead
