(My letter to Planning Minister) Dear Sir, We are swinging - TopicsExpress

(My letter to Planning Minister) Dear Sir, We are swinging voters and have recently been outraged by the lack of long term planning in regard to the Mentone Hotel. It is not the venue as such but the historical / heritage value this building holds for the bayside beach strip, which is in jeopardy. We have signed Clarke Martins Independent Sand. Petition. We believe that the Planning Minister has the power to intervene in planning schemes or heritage issues by amending a planning scheme or calling a matter before VCAT or the heritage council. It is our vehement belief that the this building needs to be saved. The bayside/beach road precinct needs buildings of this nature mixed with the multi million dollar developments. There should be a place for future generations to stay in touch and enjoy its local history. As you know, this will be the fourth historical pub that has been demolished along this stretch (about 10 km) of Beach Road. Tourists visit this area of beach rd and it should be maintained as an attraction and part of the ambience of Melbourne lifestyle. The importance of maintaining a mix of old and new is imperative in keeping Melbourne the vibrant and wonderful city of which we live in. Please take the relevant action in this matter to ensure the survival of this buildings future. Yours Sincerely, Wendy and Mike Griffiths [email protected] Sent from my iPhone
