My letter to the Editor: Dear Editor, I am asking a question to the people of our community; where do they stand? Are they a part of the establishment or with we the people? I believe the politicians from Washington DC to the City of Miami have lost touch with reality. When I see the City spending $7,000 for new Councilmen chairs when there are so many other needs in the City I question; are these people in leadership really in touch with the true needs of our Community? Also did City employees get new chairs? I heard some of the old chairs went to some City employees, but then if that is true why were the chairs good enough for the working people, but not good enough for the Councilman? Is it because Councilman Schultz, as he states, has a bad back? I own my own business and I sit day after day in a $49 Walmart chair and it seems to work just fine. We also have a Police Chief that was in the Newspaper stating he resigned and then after a period of time he is offered his job back, because I assume the job he was going to didn’t work out. My question there is; if a City employee that was a working class employee was to resign and go try another job would the City offer them their position back if it didn’t work out? Nothing against the Chief, but I doubt it. We are spending $11,000,000 on a stadium at NEO through sales tax of all things and now to learn the number of students is declining at NEO. How does that work? The City is going to build a $300,000 Animal Shelter which is great, but how can we sustain this kind of spending? There will be a Mayoral election coming up and people within the City need to ask themselves; where do I stand? I pray good people stand up and run for the office. The City of Miami is the County seat for Ottawa County and what the City of Miami does reflects throughout the whole County. Our City is in decline and I believe it is time to stand up and start moving Miami to be the City it could be. As Albert Eisenstein said; “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” In closing I would also like to say; like me or hate me I never hide behind anonymity like the person that sent me hate mail, I’m always up front and I’m always willing to sit and talk with anyone.
