My life as an artist has taught me not to take anything for - TopicsExpress

My life as an artist has taught me not to take anything for granted in the creative process, even though artists are encouraged to fall into a routine, through style and production. Style in itself shouldnt be an issue because we are defined by our style, because its natural to our being, it is who we are and and in one sense an unavoidable truth. However production is another matter, for the art market it is an expected requirement for the galleries and agents looking to cash in on the market. A stream of work done in a style repeated over and over again, leaving creativity held in stasis and finally left to wither and die. This I would say is the single most destructive force that artists are exposed to and the most destructive one that leads to the production of decorative objects bereft of the gift of sincere creative input. I fight these expectations on a daily basis because it has been engrained in my psyche, I know that creativity should be full of surprises and diversity if it is to remain alive. (I wanted to write more but I have to pick up one of my kids whos been sick at school)
