My mother had me when she was not much more than a child herself, - TopicsExpress

My mother had me when she was not much more than a child herself, 21 years old. In many ways we grew up together...fighting and competing like sisters at times. When I announced that I was dropping out of college at 19 to move to NYC to be a star, she was furious yet kept her mouth shut, drove me to the city and, unbeknownst to me, cried her eyes out every time she and my dad drove back to CT from visiting. She said she knew I belonged here and would never move back home and that was what made her so sad, but she let me go. Now that I am a mother I have such a new understanding and appreciation of that kind of selfless love. Our relationship had its ups and downs and we butted heads plenty, but there is no way to prepare for the loss of a parent. You are never old enough, strong enough or tough enough that it will not hurt unbelievably. I take comfort in all the calls, texts and messages I have received today, but I especially appreciate the ones from those of you who have experienced this already. It is a club none of us want to be in, but one we all most likely join at some point. Most importantly I cannot thank my father, Richard Molinaro and my sisters, Jennifer and Maureen for the endless, tireless hours they have spent being full time caretakers of our mother over the past three years. You three are the strongest people I know. I will miss you, mom. Love, kristi
