My mother lives in an assisted living residence that is promoting becoming diabetic or encouraging diabetics to go into insulin shock. They have a huge tray of big cookies out on the counter every day. When they are gone, the softball size muffins and sticky buns come out followed by more giant muffins. Many folks there are diabetic. Combine that with memory loss, you have old people walking around stuffing sugary carb filled poison into their mouths and bloodstreams. My mother just told me she didnt think she would go to dinner tonight since shes been eating cookies all day. She says theyre healthy because they have raisins and oatmeal. Trying to explain to her that the cookies are not healthy is useless. I have tried again and again. What is wrong with these people who run these places? Dont they get it? Are any of you faced with this same situation with your elders in assisted living? I have complained to the powers that be there, but nothing ever changes.
